We are proud to be associated with Endress + Hauser.
Endress+Hauser are recognised as a leading supplier of industrial measurement
and automation equipment, providing services and solutions for industrial processes
all over the world. They offer comprehensive process solutions for flow, level,
density, pressure, analysis, temperature, recording and digital communications
across a wide range of industries, optimising processes in regards to economic
efficiency, safety and environmental protection.
Radiometric (Nuclear) Measurement
Endress+Hauser have been producing radiometric measurement instrumentation for
over 50 years. Their vast experience with this measurement principle has enabled them to develop innovative solutions such as the Gamma Modulator and our range of
pneumatic (on/off) source containers that continue to push the envelope in
terms of safety, accuracy and reliability.
The Measuring Principle
A radioactive source emits gamma radiation that passes through the walls of the
pipe or vessel containing the medium being monitored.
A detector is mounted on the opposite side of the container which senses the
radiation that is not absorbed by the medium and is directly related to the
parameter being measured.
Due to its non-contact detection principles, radiometric measurement is ideally
suited for applications with extreme process conditions such as abrasion,
corrosion, toxic mediums, high temperatures and high pressures.
Fields of Application
• Level limit detection
• Continuous level measurement
• Interface layer measurement
• Density measurement or concentration measurement
• Temperature compensated density or concentration measurement
• Mass flow measurement
General Facts on Radiometric Measurement
Specialised software is used to simplify the selection of source intensity and
material ensuring effective measurement while keeping the level of radiation
used to an absolute minimum to optimise operator safety
Critical system safety parameters and installation criteria are automatically
calculated and graphically represented
The radioactive source is enclosed in a lead lined steel source container
that is designed to direct the radiation emission in one direction, screening
it in all other directions
Radiation exposure to operators is maintained well below levels considered
safe by Australian regulators and the International Atomic Energy Agency - IAEA
Due to their safety, accuracy and reliability in the most adverse conditions,
radiometric measurement systems are used in many applications throughout the
world. In Australia, they have been successfully applied in the mining, mineral
processing, chemical, petrochemical, paper, oil and power generation industries
